Event Details

The route from Lecina to Alquezar is a fantastic proposal to discover magical corners of the Sierra de Guara.

The Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park is a magnificent place to enjoy hiking in winter. Located in the Pre-Pyrenees, its most pleasant temperatures make us enjoy its extraordinary landscapes.

On this occasion, we propose the route that joins the towns of Lecina and Alquezar. These towns are located in the area of influence of the Vero river. This is a magnificent river that runs through a canyon with high walls.

We will start the route in the town of Lecina. Before starting, we will visit the Millenary Holm Oak. Impressive holm oak that recently, in 2021, won an award for the Tree of Spain and Europe. With its more than 16 meters high and 7 meters in perimeter, it is worth the visit…

The town has different manor houses, with shields carved into the stone and countless details carved on their windows, doors and facades.

The route itself descends from the town to the Vero river. It is an itinerary that goes up and down, entering and leaving the Vero river canyon and some other springs. We will be able to enjoy a privileged environment, with viewpoints to the canyon, from where we can enjoy its eroded and excavated walls by the water and the passing of the years. Crowds of vultures roam the area, as it is ideal for nesting.

During the tour, we will visit different caves or shelters, where we can see cave paintings. La Mallata, the shelters d eArpan or the Cueva del Trucho, are some of them.

The path continues up and down, until finally we will reach the bottom of the Vero river, which we will cross over a beautiful bridge. From there, a path goes up the entire canyon to leave us in the upper part of Alquezar.

Alquezar is a medieval villa, restored with great detail and taste. Declared a Historic-Artistic Site. With narrow cobbled streets, it reminds us of its Islamic past, when they built their castle. Later, when the Christian reconquest, the castle was converted into the current collegiate church.

The route lasts between 4 and 5 hours (depending on the pace and the visits to the shelters). About 10km csai and an accumulated difference of around 550mts.
